College Students

Are you a first-time college student? Or someone returning to college? Are you a traditional or older student looking to improve your career chances? Would you like help? No matter where you are in your college journey, this post is sure to prove useful.

Saving Money On College

Most major colleges will require you to live your first year on campus unless you happen to live locally. Living on campus can be expensive, and many students look to move off campus after their first year to save money.   Selecting a  campus in a dormitory or suite with multiple roommates will save you a nice bit of money over an individual room. Understand that this may be good for your wallet but could hurt your study environment. While a dorm is memorable and fun, you might find it better to live at home or rent an apartment if possible.

Save On Text Books

The textbooks you need to buy can be very costly, and sometimes they might not even be required even if it is listed in the syllabus. College is already costing you an arm and a leg, then you need every buck you can save, so unless you need to get ahead or the professor has given you an assignment for day one, consider waiting for the first day of class before purchasing your books. There are many bookstores or online marketplaces where purchasing used books is easy if you want a physical copy of your text. Be careful purchasing used books, as your class may require a textbook access code that is not available when purchasing most used books.   When trying to save money on textbooks, make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

The Freshman Twenty

The freshman twenty is a real thing. For most college students,  using the campus gym is a great way to stay healthy and manage stress. It is also a great way to meet new people and form friendships with others with similar interests. One of the great opportunities colleges present is the opportunity to broaden your circle of friends and maybe even find a few workout buddies to help you stay motivated for your workouts.

Sleep Is Very Important

Sleep is vital when you enter college for a variety of reasons. Staying up late or having frequent parties are common causes of low grades and repeated courses. When you set your goals appropriately, you can reach them. Study after study demonstrates that college students have the most success when they get at least 7 hours of sleep a night.

Dating In College

You can date creatively while in college. Instead of an expensive restaurant, try to cook yourself and enjoy it by candlelight. Not only will this save you money, but it will be more romantic and impressive. If you have roommates, make a deal with them. Then, when they want privacy, you can do the same. Remember to make sure your friends and family are aware of where you are and make sure to have a few check-in times in order to stay safe.

Successful College Students Connect

Connect with 2 to 3 students in each of your classes. It’s hard to talk to people you don’t know, but the benefits are worth trying. Class connections help you keep on top of your work in case you miss a class or do not understand something in a lecture. Your new friends can also become your study partners.

College Professors Want You To Succeed

Look at your professors as if they are part of your personal advisor board. The vast majority of your college professors want you to succeed. They are more than willing to help than most college students realize. You just need to ask. Ask questions and receive help when you need it. When your professors work with you, you’ll end up with great grades.

You Can Do It

It’s important to understand that you have the capability and ability to earn your degree. Believe it and trust the process.   Anyone can go through college and come out a better, more rounded individual. Don’t let anything or anyone tell you that you are not worthy or capable. Take advantage of the opportunity college presents. Get started on your goals today.
