If you are a college student and you are here it is likely because things are not going as well as you would like.   Take a deep breath and relax, you got this!   You see you don’t have to  make massive changes to your life to gain significate results.   If fact, by replacing your bad habits, with a proven process you not only get better results, you get more time and less stress.   Let me ask you a question,   If you had a choice between taking $3 million in cash today or a single magic penny that would double in value every day for the next 31 days, which would you pick?

If you’ve heard this parable before, you know the magic penny is your most profitable choice. But why is it so difficult to believe choosing the magic penny is the best choice in the long run?  The basic reason is that we are programmed to believe that it takes large significant actions to actually make any difference in our lives.  In addition, our brains believe anything that takes longer periods of time to deliver a result is painful and pushes us in the direction of immediate fun and gratification.   Fun just always seems to trump long-term commitment.  Let’s take a look at our magic penny example to demonstrate this idea.

For the point of discussion, let’s say you took the $3 million in cash and your friend decides to take a flyer on that magic penny.  On Day Seven, your friend has sixty-four cents. You, however, still have $3 million, less, of course, some of those fancy purchases you made.  On Day Fourteen, your friend is up to a whopping $81.92.  Not looking too good for your friend at this point!  You have been enjoying your millions, and watching your friend struggle with only pennies to show for it.

After 21 days, with only 10 days left in our story, the magic penny has only generated $10,486.  For all your friend’s sacrifice, she has barely more than $10,000.  You, however, have been enjoying your $3 million windfall.  On Day Twenty-Seven the magic penny has only generated a poultry $671,088, you are thrilled with your decision to take the $3 million.  But, then the seemingly poor performing magic penny starts to gain steam and the power of the compound effect starts to take hold.  That same power of that seemingly ill-advised doubling magic penny, that small doubling each day takes hold and makes that magic penny worth $10,737,418.24 on Day Thirty-one, more than three times your $3 million.

What do you think about your choice now?  This parable is meant to demonstrate the power of small actioned taken consistency over time is surprisingly powerful.  On day Twenty-nine, you’ve got your $3 million; the magic penny has about $2.7 million.  It isn’t until that 30th day that your friend pulls ahead, with $5.3 million.  And it isn’t until the 31st day that your friend blows your doors off; she ends up with a whopping $10,737,418.24 compared to your now seemly poultry $3 million.

Very few things are as powerful as the “magic” of compounding actions taken consistently over time. Not surprisingly, this “magic-force” is equally powerful in all areas of your life.

Better choices, reinforced with positive habits, applied consistently over time is the key to happiness and success in life.  The sooner you realize that the habits that drive your actions are compounding your life into either success or failure, happiness or stress, and frustration.  The good news is that tiny, small adjustments applied to your daily routines can dramatically change your trajectory and lead to the success you desire in your life.  Once more, I’m not talking about massive quantum leaps of change or a complete renovation of your life.  Just like the magic penny, seemingly minor changes can and will transform everything.

In June 2005, Steve Jobs took the podium at Stanford Stadium to give the commencement speech to Stanford’s graduating class. Wearing jeans and sandals under his formal robe, Jobs addressed a crowd of 23,000 with a short speech that drew lessons from his life. About a third of the way into the address, Jobs offered the following advice: “You’ve got to find what you love…the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking, and don’t settle

When it comes to your impulses, desires, and goals, you can either control them – and your destiny – or you can let them control you. Anyone – including you – can reach their goals and find success and happiness. Whatever you want out of life – be it fame, fortune, power, or impact, you can achieve it. Whether you want to be a rock star, a successful entrepreneur or have a wonderful, loving family, it is all within your reach. But be careful, what we think we want and what we truly desire are often two very different things. So, you need to figure out what you want and then get ready to go for it.

Setting and achieving goals is one of the most exciting and fulfilling things that you can do in your life. There is very little that compares with the thrill of sitting back one day and realizing that the goals you set a few years ago – the one that you never thought you would actually be able to achieve is not only within grasp, it has actually already happened, and you barely realized that you had met that goal because you were already planning the next one.
If you are going to dream – then dream big and then put everything you have into realizing that dream. Your goals will seem like the star, the stars seem a billion miles away when you first stand under the sky and look up at them, but if you keep reaching for your goals with everything you have, eventually you will build momentum, and have enough time to benefit from the compound effect, you will find your goals pluck right out of the night sky. All you have to do is put forth a plan, make the effort, and give yourself enough time to reach your dreams.

It is my hope that College Success Academy will help you finally be able to see the clear and easy path that leads right to your goals. It has been there all along, but our program can help you clear the brambles and brush and see the way ahead more clearly than ever before. All you need to do is choose a dream. So, what are you waiting for? This is your moment.

Before you know it, you’ll be walking across that stage again and collecting a diploma – only this time, it will say “College Graduate”!

Being successful at college requires a full range of skills.  Some come into play at key moments in the semester, like when you’re facing major tests and papers.  Others are needed throughout the term.  Let’s face it, on most days you have to go to class, do the assigned reading, and/or study for some weekly quiz.  That’s why it’s important to have the skills of college down cold.

If you study, learn, adapt, and grow, you will come out of college with not only a degree, but with the skills to launch you in the start of a successful career and life.

For many college students, this may seem more like a dream than a reality.  Sure, they’ve learned the basics – the first-generation level of studying, managing their time, and taking test that just about everyone learns in high school.  Some have even mastered an intermediate level of skills that, with luck, you’ve learned your freshman year of college.  But you could have advanced, fully polished, professional-level skills that’ll drive you to the top of your class and lead to a great career.
